Automating Design Solutions with Tesla’s Matt Jezyk

We had a great time last Tuesday with Philadelphia Dynamo Group (PDUG) at JKRP Architects for a special discussion, sponsored by Microsol Resources, to close out PDUG’s Spring series.

Matt Jezyk, Sr. Staff Software Engineer at Tesla, shared what’s next for generative design and machine learning in architecture and gave a sneak peek on how Tesla is using automated solutions at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada. This “machine that builds the machine” will be the biggest building in the United States at 5.4 million square feet when completed and incorporates automated design on almost every level to lower costs and increase productivity.

“Observe”, “Predict”, and “Evolve” were the buzzwords for the evening as Matt also provided research examples from Autodesk – where he was previously a Senior Engineering Manager – on how predictive modeling using data like demographic information or inputting specific objectives enables practitioners to make responsible designing decisions while better meeting client goals.

During the second part of the session, Matt gave a beginner’s guide to Python programming by introducing critical terms and concepts and demoing how to integrate the scripting language in Dynamo.
